We all know about the usual formats such as Neo-Standard and Standard in Weiß Schwarz, but what about a twist. During Shiro Kuro Fes there was a side event that featured special rulings for the game. Let's check them out shall we?
I - Character Shoukan on Sale!
II - Twin Drive! Go!!
III - A Small Miracle of the Unwilting Cherry Blossom
IV - Have All the Draws!
V - Amnesia much?
VI - Stocked up!!
Obviously not titled as such. I'm bored so I wanted to prolong this as much as I can =3
Anyway, the way this works is, depending on the roll, you will end up getting a particular effect. One roll per table, two rolls per table, whatever you choose, but the more dice you roll for separate effects -or why not stacked effects?- the more shenanigans happen!! So let's check out the effects with the horrible titles I came up with just a few seconds ago!!
You rolled I - Character Shoukan on Sale!
Rolling a die and it landing on a one nets you and your opponent a big fat -1 to all your Character Costs. Yes, that's right, all Character Cards Cost are all reduced by 1. Don't have enough stock to play that Character that cost 2 to bring out? Don't fret because it now costs 1!
There's not much impact early game, unless you're playing the few Level 0 with Cost 1 in the game. I honestly can't think of any at the moment aside from Tsukuyomi Komoe in To Aru Majutsu no Index & Railgun. Not having to pay her 1 cost early on in the game might impact the threats brought out. Pretty good. The way I see it too, is that the cost is permanently reduced during the game so Cost Suiciders can shine like crazy here! Bring out some of that spitfire Valliere pride!
You rolled II - Twin Drive! Go!!
"Well this one sounds pretty interesting" you think as your die landed on a 2. Just like the horrible title suggest, your Vanguard -in this case your center Character- will receive the dreaded Twin Drive! system from Cardfight!! Vanguard. That's it by the way. There is no Guardian Circle calling for extra Defense boost, no using your two other Characters to guard your Center Character, and definitely no such thing as Heal Triggers -although I might think of a way to make Weiß Schwarz Vanguard in the near future-
So, your Center Character receives Twin Drive!. For those not familiar with Cardfight!! Vanguard for some reason, it means that when you attack with your Center Character you will do two Trigger Checks! That's right folks, two for the price of one!
Ruling purposes, this is how it goes. Say you Trigger a Book on your first check, you draw the card first before proceeded to the next Trigger. Say you have one card left in your deck, this is how it would proceed. First you Trigger -and just for all sake and purpose it's another Book, then proceed to Refresh, draw your card, proceed to your second Trigger then finally take the Refresh Damage!
You rolled III - A Small Miracle of the Unwilting Cherry Blossom
"That's a long ass title" you probably though as your die landed on 3! Those of you who know Miracle of the Unwilting Cherry Blossom from Da Capo III will probably have an inkling on what this effect has in stores for you.
【カウンター】 相手のキャラすべてに、そのターン中、ソウルを+5し、次の能力を与える。『【永】 このカードはサイドアタックできない。』
[Counter] All your Opponent's Characters gain +5 Soul and "[C] This cannot Side Attack" for the turn.
That's right folks, this ruling simply negates your ability of Side Attacking. However, since this is a smaller tree instead of Characters gaining +5 Soul they get +3 Soul instead. Oh what fun this is!
You rolled IV - Have all the Draws
Hand Advantage is pretty popular in any card game. Magic the Gathering, Yu-Gi-Oh!, and Cardfight!! Vanguard for example. Weiß Schwarz is not one that leaves the loop. For those who have not even heard of Weiß Schwarz -why are you reading this in the first place??- well after our usual Draw Step we are allowed to place one card from our hand on the top of our Clock to then draw 2 extra cards.
With this ruling, instead of drawing 2 cards on Clock, you will be drawing 4 cards. Four cards for taking one single damage, pretty good don't you think? Think of those exquisite Hand Encore cards that's going to love the extra source for their Field Presence... Watch out though! You might end up drawing a good hand size full of Climax cards at the wrong time here! Some of you might probably abuse Miyuki, Strongest Character with this though...
[A] [(1)] When this is placed from hand to the Stage, you may paycost. If so, return all Climax cards in your Waiting Room to your hand, and discard the same number of cards from your hand to the Waiting Room.
[S] [(1) Discard 1 Climax cards from hand to the Waiting Room] Choose 1 card in your Clock and put it in the Waiting Room.
You rolled V - Amnesia Much?
Horrible title I know, but amnesia affects Memory and well... when your die roll lands on this particular 5, you will have to start with 5 Climax cards in your deck instead of the usual 8. So before you guys begin your shuffling, you will have to select 3 Climax Cards from your deck and place them in Memory.
Imagine this in a Standard format where it's pretty much easy to send cards from Waiting Room to Memory! Why the process is almost half done! Bring out the +50 Soul Deck for some awesome shenanigans to happen!!
You rolled VI - Stocked up!!
We all know that cards cost a few Stock for things to happen. Either summoning them or for their abilities, you require Stock and to get this you have to attack. Now what this little rule does is that after you both draw your initial 5 and proceed to the mulligan, you are to put the top 6 cards of your deck into your Stock!
Shenanigans galore as Level 0 Tutors can start off as you go! I can even see those Nagato players Clocking for 2 then Heal right off the bat! Imagine the possibilities you can do as you start off with 6 cards in stock! The thrill of not knowing what the hell is in those 6 cards as well -until you actually use them-!
So those are the general 6 that's been used in the side events. Now usually they do a one ruling per pair, but you can add twist it to your heart desire. Have both players roll a die and they'll stack up. Or maybe have the Tournament Organizer roll one die in addition to their rolls! Imagine having 4-2-6 as a combination! The funny things that can happen during game!
Maybe you find the Original 6 to be lacking punch? How about add some more to it. Make it a D8, a D12, a D20, or even a d100! The possibilities are outstanding and only limited to your imagination. I'm certainly going to be running this at our Local Shop and will be posting the funny shenanigans that ensues post-tournament!!!
What do you think of this? Think you can come up with a better list? Give me your thoughts, I feed on them!!
