「First Impressions」Blade & Soul

Yet, time to check out the MMORPG in Anime form now!

       Take revenge

So I posted the opening recently and I decided to check out the first episode to decide whether or not I'll pick it up this season or not

Alka is an assassin for the Clan of the Sword. She's on a journey to find the woman Jin Valel, who killed her master Hon. Jin is a demon-like woman who controls the Energy of Chaos and kills without feeling - not unlike how Alka has learned to kill in her work as an assassin. On her journey, Alka encounters three strange women, each great warriors in their own right, and grapples with her slain master's wish that she leave the life of an assassin behind.

Harump... So we start off with a chase - action packed already - and we get a view of what the action will look like in this Anime. Plunged right away into a bloody scene usually seals the deal to die hard action packed fans and the execution wasn't lame at all. Quick and efficient which is what Alka -voiced by Takao Yuki- is.

It pans out right after towards what looks to be antagonists. Ga Gante -voice by Koyama Rikiya-, Yu Lan -voiced by Itou Shizuka-, and Jin Valel -voiced by Yuuki Aoi-. Pretty okay cast here yo!

So we dive into the journey of Alka in her quest for vengeance! She first starts off by accepting an offer of a bodyguard duty by a villager after hearing that the focus of her ire will be present -the Palam Empire-. The character development is slow and builds up piece by piece. Alka, aside from being the silent type and very skilled in the arts of assassination, is pretty much unknown in the beginning. We get bits and pieces as we go along the episode and I find it quite awesome we just didn't get a massive info dump in one scene.

As the episode goes on, we arrive at the village which is being harassed by the Palam Empire. Said Empire is one that shouldn't be trifled with as they are very powerful and does not accept "no" for an answer. Said village is being harassed as their land is quite fertile to harvest Heaven's Spirit Flower. Some mystical thing that enables supernatural powers to be harnessed -which apparently is what made the Empire powerful-!

The negotiations is a bust as they obviously said no and -as stated before, the Empire does not take "no" for an answer- so they resort to violence. Alka, being hired as Mori's bodyguard, acts swiftly and kills the two messenger's guards and moves in for the kill. She stops, however, as Mori halts her action. Upon recognizing the butterfly shaped mark, the messenger flees and informs the Empire about the event that just took place.

The village is then raided and everyone killed -aside from the Head Chief-. We get to see some more awesome action and it all ends with Alka as the victor and her swearing to follow the "Code".

I honestly thought they would have been massive amounts of fanservice -idem to Queen's Blade- but this actually holds a plot that has yet to develop more. We also saw glimpse of the majority of the characters that will play part in the Anime. Enough to notice their importance, yet not enough to know everything about them. Furthermore, the Code of the Sword Clan is still unknown as even the Empire appears to fear it despite their strength.

So this thing actually has plot! And is packed with some nice action awesomeness... Now all I have to see is if it continues as so or it'll go on a descent after the first three weeks...
